HBN-Teknik A/S in Ringsted develops and produces composite solutions for the trailer and truck industry and is a world leader in plastic bells for air suspension systems and anti-spray screens.
Previously, the company used tactile measuring tools to manually measure parts, but since 2017 they have been using a fully automated 3D scanner solution.
The investment in optical measuring equipment is due to both the higher complexity of parts and customers' increased demands for measurement system analysis, MSA for short.
HBN-Teknik chose to invest in the automated ATOS ScanBox 5120, which can measure parts up to 2 m and 500 kg with high precision.
From development and commissioning to ongoing quality control:
The optical measuring system is currently used for commissioning parts in HBN-Teknik's development department.
In addition to complete surface measurement, the equipment is used to measure center points and concentricity of, for example, the company's bells. Features that are not possible to measure with tactile measuring tools.
The plan is that the ATOS ScanBox 5120 will also be used in production for continuous quality control.
Result:
The MSA of the 3D scanner solution has shown a significantly lower measurement uncertainty than with previous measuring tools. Depending on the part, the measurement uncertainty is reduced between 5-40%.
